Biography

Tlen-Huicani has created a lively and energy-filled performance of their traditional folk material with orchestral accompaniments.  Founded in 1973, Tlen-Huicani is one of the premier interpreters of the son jarocho, the mestizo musical style created on their home region of Veracruz.  The charts, created by Maestro Mateo Oliva, were debuted with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and have since been performed multiple times with orchestras in the US and Mexico including a performance in the port city of Veracruz under the direction of rising orchestral star, Alondra de la Parra.  The arrangements explore the great diversity of the music of Mexico and Veracruz and orchestra members often comment on their great enjoyment in playing these very picturesque arrangements.

“Here were true, impassioned artists demonstrating through their love of their art, a style of musical expression that was exciting, compelling, dramatic and extremely colorful.”  Press-Enterprise San Bernardino, CA
